NO, it’s not real. The picture below is rather Queanbeyan Art Society’s fantasy about how the present coffee shop in a container on the shores of the local river could be enhanced, and it is, as they admit, “Pie in the Sky”.

The society and its president, Barry Cranston, believe the town is “fast becoming a force in many forms of art and to strengthen this claim the city now must start looking to bring international, national and regional art to the bank of the Queanbeyan River”.

The suggested “gallery,” they say, is an artist’s impression of what might be built on top of the present Riverside Café pylons, a “huge” venue that could house national and regional art shows, exhibitions, including their own and wedding receptions—you name it.

“Queanbeyan is becoming a ‘real art city’ (visual and performing) and to have such a facility would no doubt give it more depth in the art world and attract more visitors to the city throughout the year,” a release from the society says. They hope the idea will be considered by the committee of the Rivertown Queanbeyan 2025, the winning project in the international design ideas competition for Queanbeyan initiated by the Queanbeyan Business Chamber.
