CELTIC-flavoured group, The Rumjacks, are kicking off a huge tour this weekend with a show at Canberra’s Transit Bar.

The Rumjacks

Describing themselves as “five musical misfits from the cobbled streets of old Sydney town”, a group unto themselves and the music they’ve made their own.

The Rumjacks have changed their line-up somewhat from their beginnings, now featuring front man Frankie McLaughlin and bassist Johnny McKelvey with drummer Anthony Matters, guitarist Gabriel Whitbourne and banjo/mandolin/Bouzouki player Adam Kenny.

They don’t mind comparisons to The Pogues, Billy Bragg and The Dropkick Murphys, but insist that they put their own twist to the music.

With Celtic roots to their driving punk rock rhythms, “cheeky lyrics and rampant, greased up bonhomie”, they appeal to fans of rock, punk, folk, reggae, Irish and as they admit, “god knows what else”.

The Rumjacks Februry 6, at the Transit Bar, Civic, bookings to 1300 GET TIX moshtix.com.au
