ACTEWAGL have been updating their systems to remove the price on carbon from electricity and gas bills and backdate these changes to 1 July 2014.
Effective from 1 July 2014, ACT electricity customers will have their electricity consumption rate reduced by 2.776 cents per kWh. For a typical residential customer who uses 8,000 kWh per year, this will mean electricity bills will decrease by around $222 (GST inclusive) per annum.
This price reduction (backdated to 1 July 2014) will be applied to all customer bills issued from 1 August 2014.
ActewAGL customers who have already received a bill between 1 July and 31 July 2014 will have a new bill issued based on the new carbon exclusive prices. Customers who have already paid their bill will receive a credit for the carbon amount which will appear on their next bill.
Customers who receive their bills after 1 August 2014 will only see the carbon exclusive prices on their bills. So from 1 July 2014, these customers will not have been charged the carbon price.
Effective from 1 July 2014, ACT natural gas customers will have their gas consumption rate reduced by around $2.068 per GJ. For a typical residential customer who uses 47.5GJ of gas per year, this will mean gas bills will decrease by around $98 (GST inclusive) per annum.
They currently anticipate that this price reduction (backdated to 1 July 2014) will be applied to all customer bills issued from September 2014.
Customers who received and paid a bill between 1 July and September 2014 will have a credit for the carbon price appear on their next bill, with the price reduction backdated to 1 July 2014.
Customers who receive their bills after prices are updated will only see the carbon exclusive prices on their bills. So from 1 July 2014, these customers will not have been charged the carbon price.
ActewAGL NSW customers
They’re still working through the changes to NSW prices. The changes will be backdated to 1 July 2014.
ActewAGL is continuing to talk with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to ensure they comply with the carbon repeal legislation so they can pass on the full price adjustments once all carbon exclusive prices have been finalised.
