ACTION bus fares will increase by over 7 per cent, the ACT government announced today.
From January 4, bus fares will jump by 7.5 percent; from $4.20 to $4.50 for an adult cash fare or $2.65 to $2.84 for an adult MyWay fare during a peak travel period.
Adult daily fares paid by cash have increased 60c, from $8 to $8.60.
This is the second time fares have increased this year, with a 5 per cent rise announced in February.
Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury says the fare increase “reflects continuing improvements to ACTION’s service, including new bus shelters, upgraded bus stops”, and that ACTION continues to offer competitive fares when compared with other cities.
“For example, where unlimited distances can be travelled within a period of 90 minutes – a peak hour trip from Gungahlin to the City will cost a maximum of $2.84 with your MyWay card, whereas an equivalent trip is at least 50 cents more in other capital cities,” Mr Rattenbury says.
“Catching an ACTION bus daily, to and from Civic, remains over $160 per month cheaper than driving and parking, not including additional costs such as petrol.”
