JOY Burch has tabled the ACT Government response to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Report on the Inquiry into elements impacting on the future of the ACT Clubs sector.

“The Government has agreed or agreed in principle with 25 recommendations, noted 10 and does not agree with 11 recommendations,” Joy said.

“I thank the members of the Standing Committee for their report, and the many individuals and organisations who took the time to make submissions or appear at the Committee’s public hearings.

“The response outlines the extensive work that the government has done to date in assisting community clubs to diversity their business, and confirms the continuation of this support well into the future.

“The government will continue to work proactively with all stakeholders to explore ways to reduce unnecessary red tape while maintaining existing harm minimisation measures to minimise the instance of problem gambling.

“I welcome the Committee’s recommendations to establish a cash input limit for electronic gaming machines and remove note denomination limits. It is not the colour of the note going into the machine that matters but the total value that can be put in.

“However, the Government does not support the committee’s recommendation to remove the $250 per day limit on withdrawals from ATMs in gaming venues. The Government is committed to retaining the withdrawal limit as an important harm minimisation measure.”
