THE SIDS and Kids ACT Christmas Lights in the City installation has started today in Civic.

This year’s event will feature a tunnel of lights along City Walk. The display will also incorporate the refurbished 22-metre Canberra Christmas tree, which will be located adjacent to Canberra Times Fountain just outside the Canberra Centre.

Perimeter fencing has been erected to cordon off the site, which will remain a construction zone for a month.

A spokesperson for SIDS and Kids ACT said shops along City Walk will remain accessible to foot traffic; however public spaces and seating may be disrupted. At this stage there are no known road closures or disruptions to accessing loading docks and laneways.

“The SIDS and Kids ACT Christmas Lights in the City is now the organisation’s biggest fundraiser of the year and the showcase of Christmas in the City – Canberra Celebrates!,” the spokesperson said.

“Christmas Lights in the City proceeds go to support local families experiencing the tragic and heartbreaking loss of a baby or child, and to provide Safe Sleeping education classes to new and expectant parents and carers.

“Christmas Lights in the City opens to the public on Friday 27 November and will include an attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most lights on an artificial Christmas tree.

“The display will open from 6pm to 11pm every night through to and including New Year’s Eve. Entry is by gold coin donation. For more information call (02) 6287 4255 or visit inthecitycanberra.com.au .”
