A 29-year-old Queanbeyan man will appear before the ACT Magistrate Court next month on multiple traffic charges after an incident in Lyneham on Saturday (24 October).
About 10.15pm police observed a white Holden utility perform a prolonged burnout at the intersection of Macarthur Avenue and Northbourne Avenue.
Police proceeded to follow the driver as he continued to weave amongst the traffic and out of sight. The driver was then located at the intersection of Ginninderra Drive and Mouat Street where he was performing another burnout. The driver then evaded police and accelerated away.
After several minutes, police located the driver on Cossington Smith Crescent where it was evident that the vehicle had lost control and crashed into a front yard of a residence. The man was taken into custody.
This incident comes as a timely reminder that police have been targeting anti-social driving for the month of October.
The penalties for anti-social driving range from on-the-spot fines and demerit points to receiving a summons to face court or having your car seized.
When you see some driving recklessly or hear someone doing burnouts, report it to ACT Policing on 131-444 immediately. If you see evidence of anti-social driving on Facebook or you know a hot-spot where this type of activity happens often, report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police remind people not to report crime to Facebook or Twitter pages.
