JOY Burch has unveiled the $1 million upgrade of the Gorman Arts Centre, which has further developed the facility as a multi-arts hub.
“It was wonderful to visit Gorman Arts Centre today to tour the facility and see the outstanding development works completed there,” Joy said.
“The 2013-14 ACT Budget allocated $1 million over two years to develop Gorman Arts Centre as a multi-arts hub and $1.5 million to develop Ainslie Arts Centre as a specialist music hub. As part of the upgrade works, the beloved public artwork On the Staircase, by Danish artist Keld Moseholm, has been relocated to the east internal courtyard space.
“This public artwork, which is a reflection on why reading is good for the soul, is right at home near the ACT Writer’s Centre, which promotes and supports writing and writers in the ACT and region.
“The sculpture and ACT Writer’s Centre are a great pair, and I hope staff and visitors to Gorman Arts Centre enjoy the artwork in its new home.”
The completed improvement works at Gorman House Arts Centre include extensive landscaping works; upgrades to the Main Hall (previously the Bogong Theatre) including a new polished timber floor, new pendant lighting and kitchen facilities; and upgrades to administration facilities to accommodate the art centre’s growing staff requirements.
