The film is inspired by true events and tells the story of chief White House butler Cecil Gaines (played by Forest Whitaker) who served eight American presidents over three decades, including Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan. Cecil witnessed radical transformations in American history – from the civil rights movement to the war in Vietnam to the escalation of the Cold War – and how those changes affected his life and family. As Gaines’ wife, it is Oprah Winfrey’s first big screen role in almost 15 years. The all-star cast also includes Robin Williams, John Cusack, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Jane Fonda, David Oyelowo and Liev Schreiber.
