QUEANBEYAN Council is warning people using Mt Jerrabomberra for recreational purposes, and houses close to the area, be aware of feral pigs in the area.

Queanbeyan City Council has been made aware of an incident involving a walker and her dog last week and has engaged a licensed specialist to survey the area and remove the animal if found.

“This is the first report of its kind that Council has received in recent memory and how the pig got to Mt Jerrabomberra is not known,” Council’s Manager Environment and Health Natasha Abbott said.

“The lady involved was quite shaken by the ordeal and Council is urging those who walk Mt Jerrabomberra and people who occupy houses that may back on to the reserve to take care.

“Walkers are encouraged to keep to the roads on Mt Jerrabomberra and to keep their dogs on a leash at all times. If you come across a feral pig, please do not approach it and call Council after hours number 6298 1234, provide a location and time that you saw the animal.”

Signage will be installed at the major access points until Council is satisfied that the risk has been managed.
