ANDREW Barr says the ACT Government will waive the $2.5 million loan provided to Boundless Canberra to build the popular, all-abilities playground on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

“With this financial liability now removed, I hope that Boundless Canberra’s fundraising efforts can go towards improving the playground, including the provision of shade facilities and a social enterprise kiosk,” Andrew said.

“The positive feedback the playground has received is a wonderful indication of how important the project is to the wider Canberra community – and the fun children of all abilities can have playing together. I have heard many families note that the lack of sufficient shade is a concern, and by removing the need to repay the loan, Boundless will be able to put fundraising efforts into new infrastructure.

“Another priority for Boundless will be to seek expressions of interest to provide social outcomes in the development of the business model and the construction of the kiosk for people with a disability, including employment opportunities.

“Boundless is a great example of what the community can achieve. The playground was made possible through the commitment and donations of the Canberra community, and I would hope this support continues as the project grows.”
