SIMON Corbell and Yvette Berry have announced the appointment of Justice and Community Safety Directorate Deputy Director-General Vicki Parker as the inaugural Coordinator-General for Domestic and Family Violence.
The Coordinator-General will take responsibility for the implementation of the government response to the Domestic Violence Prevention Council’s Report into Domestic and Family Violence, including Sexual Assault, in the ACT and will ensure that government meets its responsibilities and actions under the Second Implementation Plan for the ACT Prevention of Violence against Women & Children Strategy 2011-2017.
Simon said the Coordinator-General would support all domestic and family violence prevention and response related work in the ACT Government.
“A key part of this work will be a wide-ranging analysis of the government’s resourcing and service arrangements in relation to domestic and family violence, including sexual assault, in the ACT,” Simon said.
“In addition, the government has embarked on an extensive reform program in response to key reports and the new role will ensure we continue to have a whole-of-Government approach.
“The Coordinator-General will ensure that all Government reform programs and initiatives are consistent with the key actions outlined in the Second Implementation Plan for the ACT Strategy, which is near completion.
“This will include managing the progression of recently announced amendments to the offence of strangulation, the introduction of interim domestic violence orders, and amending the definition of domestic violence,” Mr Corbell said.
