SIMON Corbell has kicked off construction of the Secure Mental Health Unit.
“The $43.5 million facility will provide 25 overnight in-patient beds, which will be opened in a staged process once the unit becomes operational,” Simon said.
“This number allows for growth in the need for secure care in the ACT.
“This is an important day for the Secure Mental Health Unit project. We are a step closer to seeing this facility being built, which will continue the improvement and expansion of our mental health care system here in the ACT.
“This new service will provide access to secure inpatient mental health care, treatment and support in a purpose-built environment. The Secure Mental Health Unit will provide complex care for people with complex needs, to protect them and the community.
“It is anticipated that only a small number of people will require this level of care at any given time.”
Simon says it is currently expected that the unit will be operational in late 2016.
