THIS Sunday, April 12, Dianna Nixon’s Wild Voices Music Theatre is presenting a special workshop in voice technique.
The teacher will be Naomi Eyers, a Master Teacher in Estill Voice Technique with an impressive performance pedigree. currently on tour with The Fabulous Singlettes, she has and has found time in her schedule to present this three-hour workshop in Canberra.
The workshop is an introduction to the vocal work of Jo Estill, a teacher whose work in voice has had a major impact on the professional stage on the West End and on Broadway and which has helped pave the way towards healthier and more robust and sustainable vocal practice.
From July 5 to 9, Eyers will be in the ACT to conduct the full five-day Estill Voice Technique levels 1 and 2 training course, designed for voice teachers and coaches, drama teachers, choir directors, musical directors, conductors and those working as professional directors, actors and/or singers. The course will run, at a venue sponsored by the Classical Ballet Centre in Cook.
Eyers started her singing career as a recording session singer and singing in contemporary pop/R&B bands. She conceived and created cabaret group The Fabulous Singlettes in Sydney in 1986, receiving “Pick of The Fringe” that same year at Edinburgh Festival. They went on to appear on the West End, on BBC and Channel 4 television specials as well as cabaret seasons in Berlin, Hamburg, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Sydney, Melbourne and Vienna.
She was also a featured vocalist in Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London through the mid 1990s and has also appeared in solo cabaret in London’s West End and at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival as well as with the award winning jazz vocal group, “Women With Standards.” She appeared in last year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Scott Evan Davis’ contemporary song cycle Picture Perfect.
