LAST night over 200 tyres were illegally dumped at two locations in Eyre Street, Kingston.
“Someone, who we believe must be a small business, has dumped over 200 tyres in two locations along Eyre Street in Kingston,” said Jane Carder, Manager, Place Management, City Services.
“Unfortunately our city rangers regularly have to deal with illegal dumping of everything from couches to general household rubbish. The clean up and disposal of these items diverts staff from other duties and is ultimately a cost to the taxpayer.
“I’d like to urge anyone who witnesses illegal dumping, or who knows anything about these dumped tyres, to report it to Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.”
“Tyres can be disposed of at Mitchell and Mugga Resource Management Centres where they are then ultimately recycled into other products.”
Businesses are also able to arrange for pick up services from commercial tyre recyclers.
“We will contact some commercial tyre recyclers today to see if they are willing to collect these tyres dumped in Kingston,” Jane said.
