It’s the band’s second year back in the premier level of national competition, so naturally president Dom Galloway and conductor/music director Geoff Grey, are tickled pink.
The result saw them finish ahead of a number of well-regarded ensembles, including the Sydney Wind Symphony, the Hobart Wind Symphony, the Northern Beaches Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Unley Concert Band from SA.
“Over recent years, Canberra City Band has been working to a clear development strategy to achieve the highest levels of performance for our audiences, for our playing members, and as ambassadors for the ACT community,” Galloway says, describing the placing as “a great reward for all the huge effort made by all the ensemble members and their music director Geoff Gray.”
Galloway notes that the band has been a central part of the Canberra community for 90 years and that in the past its ensembles have achieved a national and international reputation for musical excellence that is now seen to continue.
