SHANE Rattenbury has announced more changes in the seemingly interminable struggle to calm traffic along Spofforth Street in Holt.

“Seven of Spofforth Street’s eleven speed cushions will be removed and replaced with two chicanes. The removed speed cushions will be used in traffic calming schemes on other ACT streets,” Shane said.

“The chicanes will require motorists to slow down to navigate through the turns created by extended kerbs. They will be sized to ensure trucks and buses can manoeuvre through them, while ensuring their proportions are not wide enough to allow most smaller vehicles to speed through them.

“The four remaining sets of speed cushions and the two new chicanes will continue to help reduce speeds and enhance road safety along this residential street by providing continuous speed control all day, every day.”

Works on Messenger Street and Trickett Street will also commence this week, with works on Beaurepaire Crescent already underway.

“All three streets will receive line marking along their entire lengths. Beaurepaire Crescent will also get two chicanes with pedestrian facilities and Messenger and Trickett streets will each have one set of speed cushions installed,” Shane said.
