“HUG” is an exhibition of prints by David Frazer now showing at Beaver Galleries, along with “Traffic,” by one of Canberra’s best-known painters, Robert Boynes.
Consisting largely of studies of the human figure located in unspecified urban environments his work focuses on the anonymity of much contemporary social interaction. Using photographic images as a form of sketchbook notation, Boynes creates a screenprint that triggers a rigorous painting process. Both shows at 81 Denison Street Deakin, Tuesday – Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday – Sunday 9am to 5pm until May 27.
“BEYOND the Veneer: a fresh look at the Prime Minister’s Suite” is a new collaboration between Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, still running at the House. Canberra artists Patsy Hely, Kirstie Rea, Gilbert Riedelbauch, Dianne Firth and USA artist Russell Baldon have each been allocated rooms from the Prime Minister’s Suite to inspire an artistic response. The final works include textile installations, ceramics and glass works, ingeniously designed lighting and wood work “to bring a new interpretation to the way we consider the past.” Open daily 9am – 5pm until Sunday May 11.
THE Queanbeyan Art Society’s gallery at 6 Trinculo Place, under the bridge on the Queanbeyan Riverbank has the “Fauna-Vista-Flora & Miniatures” on show this weekend.
