TUGGERANONG Arts Centre’s ‘Fresh Funk’ tutor David McLean has won an online competition that will take him to Los Angeles to join the crew of one of the world’s leading urban choreographers, Rob Rich.
As part of the prize, McLean, who joined Fresh Funk at age 11, will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, the opportunity to train and perform with the Richboys, and work with a number of high profile choreographers.
He said on learning of his place, “I would never have got to where I am now without all the opportunities and experiences Fresh Funk has given me,” Mr McLean said, “I just can’t believe how many people came out of the woodwork with messages of support, and who were voting for me on Facebook and Instagram.”
Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s CEO Rauny Worm is just as enthusiastic, saying, “It’s also a testament to the program’s supportive environment, with a large number of dancers, past and present, voting for David and showing their support through social media.”
McLean teaches both the Fresh Funk performance program and the Monday night open classes, which offer an opportunity for anybody who wants to dance to take part.
