Farrer house ablaze

A house is well involved in flames on Raw Street in Farrer.

Firefighters conducted a primary search when they arrived and found no-one inside. They have now retreated from the property due to the heat of the fire.

Three ACT Fire & Rescue pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and two commanders are on scene.

Firefighters are continuing to use a defensive strategy to fight the blaze.

No other properties are under threat, the fire has been contained to the property but is not under control.

Due to extensive smoke logging in the cul-de-sac all residents were evacuated to a neighbouring street.

The Haz Mat crews are conducting atmospheric monitoring in all of the homes.

The ACT Ambulance Service is also in attendance. Intensive care paramedics have not treated anyone yet.

The fire is now under control.

Crews are still trying to extinguish pockets of fire throughout the house.

One unit has been released but firefighters are expecting to monitor the scene overnight until investigations into the cause can be conducted.

Residents have not been allowed to return to their houses yet as atmospheric testing is continuing.

The Bronto Aerial Platform is being used to remove parts of the roof where a small fire is located.

All hot spots in the remainder of the house have been extinguished.

Firefighters will remain on scene overnight to monitor any flare ups and begin investigations into the cause.

Residents have been allowed to return to their homes on Raw Street in Farrer.

8:59 PM


Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire just before midnight.

ACT Fire & Rescue conducted a night duty of the Raw Street home with no reports of flare-ups.

Investiations into the cause will continue this morning.

An early damage bill is estimated at $500,000.
