ANDREW Barr is claiming victory in his quest to pass the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme (Catastrophic Injuries) Bill.
“The Bill establishes a no-fault scheme to meet the ongoing treatment and care needs of those catastrophically injured in a motor vehicle accident,” Andrew said.
“Under existing legislation, only those who are able to prove someone else was at-fault have the opportunity to make a claim for long-term care.”
The bill is a plank in the establishment of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in the ACT.
Sensibly, rather than establish another orphan service, it will be rolled out as part of the existing NSW Lifetime Care and Support (LTCS).
No-fault schemes already operate in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
