WHEN “Citynews” music reviewer Clinton White recently wrote of the vocal ensemble, Coro, that it had demonstrated “beautifully balanced vocal sound with exquisite expression and tone,” it was no exaggeration.
But it’s not just us; in both the 2012 and 2013 MusicACT’s “Mama” Awards, Coro was also singled out for attention as one of our finest classical vocal groups performing in the classical idiom.
Now heavyweight Canberra singers have a chance to become part of Coro, which is looking for interested singers in all voice parts and particularly for fine tenors and basses. For more information or to organise an audition contact one of the ensemble’s founders, Paul Eldon,at info@corocanberra.com or 0435 449 337 or visit corocanberra.com
Auditionees will be asked to prepare an unaccompanied piece to perform of no longer than three minutes in duration, and will also be given some sight reasoning reading and aural tests so that Coro can get an idea of the potential vocal blend.
One of the ensemble’s founders, Paul Eldon, says that the focus of the group is on quality, innovative chamber music programs and that the practice is not to rehearse weekly, but rather to follow what he calls “the European Festival chorus tradition” of preparation, involving advanced musical skills.
Coro has already scheduled a year of performances, including “Christmas in July” July 6 and “Bach/Pärt Magnificat” with chamber orchestra on August 16.
Auditions will take place this Saturday, April 5 from 2 to 5 PM at 4 Banner Street, O’Connor. Anybody seriously interested, but unable to make the date is advised to get in touch with Coro anyway.
