SALLY Greenaway is surely the busiest young composer-pianist in Canberra.

Sally Greenaway

Several of her compositions were featured in a recent concert staged by Toby Cole at Belconnen Arts Centre and reviewed by “CityNews”. At Christmas she brought out a CD exploring big-band music and all the while, she has been working as a freelance musical director, pianist, teacher and arranger.

Tomorrow, as part of the Wednesday Lunchtime Live Concert series at Wesley Music Centre, Greenaway is staging a concert entirely made up of her own original compositions.

She will play several solo piano works, and the program will also feature a set of three poems for cello and piano performed with cellist Emma Rayner, art songs for voice and piano featuring Patrick Baker, and a tango for harp played by Elizabeth Biggs.

A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London and the ANU School of Music, Greenaway composes and performs in a exceptionally wide range of musical styles, from classical, to jazz, to film soundtracks.

While studying in London she featured at the London Chopin Festival on Steinway’s unique “Ferrari” grand piano, and also performed on Liberace’s rhinestone grand piano at the Dorchester Hotel.

In her role as pianist, Greenaway has toured and performed around the country with her jazz ensemble, the Sally Greenaway Project, to sell-out audiences.

Her works have been performed by the Finnish ensemble, Rajaton (Finland), Canberra’s  ARIA award-winning pianist Sally Whitwell, Trichotomy, the JazzGroove Mothership Orchestra, and notably for community and school groups in the Canberra region.

Greenaway is presently the musical director for ConneXion Big Band and a member of Wicked-Strings.

“Sally Greenaway, piano and friends”, at Wesley Music Centre, 20 National Circuit, Forrest,  Wednesday, April  2, 12.40-1.20pm. Paper note entry or concession $2. No bookings needed.
