THIS evening Hotel Hotel will host its third Fix and Make event, “The Ownership of Things.”
It’s a panel discussion hosted by 666ABC’s Genevieve Jacobs, in which entrepreneur and GoGet founder Bruce Jeffreys, neuroscientist Dr Pascal Molenberghs, designer Trent Jansen and historian and artist Anne Brennan all explore the concept of ownership and the sharing economy, asking “are we hard-wired to own things, what does what we buy say about us and what are the alternatives?”
The topic is exceedingly relevant. Last month, the ACT became the first jurisdiction in Australia to regulate ride-sharing, making it legal before services like Uber entered the market. The sharing economy is transforming hotel, transport and labour markets around the world, displacing industry leaders by enabling mum and dad businesses to trade through simple platforms powered by smart phones and broadband connectivity.
‘Fix and Make’ asks, “Is this the democratic face of capitalism emerging?”
Fix And Make panel discussion, at Palace Electric Cinema, Nishi, 6.30pm today, Wednesday November 18 Canberra. A drink is included with admission, registration 6pm, Tickets and all info at fixandmake.com.au
