SIMON Corbell has released a roadmap to providing integrated, high quality lymphoedema care and support services to residents of the ACT and surrounding region.
“The ACT Lymphoedema Services Plan 2015-2018 builds on a 2012 election promise and subsequent 2014 budget statements providing for more than $1.85 million in additional funding towards lymphoedema services in the next three years,” Simon said.
“The plan has been developed through internal and external consumer consultation and aims to utilise the budgeted funding as effectively as possible. It promotes communication and collaboration across public and private services in the ACT and surrounding region.
“A framework for services has been developed in order to better meet the needs of people in the ACT region and respond to increasing demand in an efficient and sustainable way. Implementation of the Plan will be overseen by a Lymphoedema Services Network.
“The plan focuses on improving the experience of care and quality of life for people diagnosed and living with lymphoedema through improved systems and programs. It emphasises early diagnosis, intervention and provision of care outside the acute hospital sector.
Implementation has already begun, with changes and improvements to continue into the coming years as implementation continues.
Lymphoedema is a condition of the lymphatic system and affects an estimated 800 people in the ACT.
