‘Fix and Make’ Market – considering the things we buy and own

HOTEL HOTEL’S new, Fix and Make Shed – a new, blokey ‘conceptual space’ repurposed to be a meeting place for fixing, making and sharing ideas at Hotel Hotel, was the setting for an unusual launch yesterday by ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

With local artists on hand creating chopstick and spoons, the purpose was to launch a new year-long series of workshops and talks that will support innovative events “that bring life, colour and vitality to the Canberra region,” Mr Barr said.

Program director, Andy Marks said, “’Fix and Make’ brings people together to create the time and the space for us to consider and question the things we buy and own, reconnect with our hands and learn new, practical skills” said Fix and Make.

The program opens to the public tomorrow Saturday November 7 with the Fix and Make Market from 10AM – 2PM in the Nishi gallery in NewActon Canberra, a FREE all-ages day of eating, meeting, making and music.

There will be demonstrations and live-making activities with twelve of the Fix and Make workshop collaborators. Outside the gallery there will be a food market curated by Monster kitchen and bar with stalls by a number local cafés, restaurants and producers including Oyster shucked to order with Moonlight Flat Oysters, Produce and take away vege boxes by Choku Bai Jo, Beer by Stone and Wood Brewery, Cold drip coffee by Barrio Coffee Collective, 38 hour pork neck bao by Monster kitchen and bar and Rainbow chard wraps by Močan & Green Grout.

 

Fix and Make Market from 10am – 2pm in the Nishi gallery in NewActon Canberra.
