SHANE Rattenbury says Canberra Olympic Pool will host a free open day next Saturday (31 October) to celebrate the start of the summer swim season.
“Canberra Olympic Pool is a valued community facility, and next Saturday’s open day is going to have something for everyone as we celebrate the start of summer and the great programs on offer at this pool,” Shane said.
“The free Canberra Olympic Pool open day will kick off with a Seniors PrYme Movers class from 9.00am, and will be followed with a full day of activity including novelty races, boot camp, a kids disco, diving displays, plus there will be pool inflatables, a jumping castle and a barbeque.
“As the weather warms up, this is a great opportunity to bring the family out for a fun day at one of Canberra’s favourite pools. I know I’m certainly looking forward to catching up with fellow swimmers and pool users.
“Many Canberrans have fond memories of visiting this pool year round, but spending summer at the COP is something special. Whether you like jumping off the towers, playing beach volleyball or even spending time outdoors in the sunshine, for 60 years COP has been there for Canberrans when we need to beat the heat.
“There’s going to be lots on at the COP next Saturday, so I encourage anyone who hasn’t been to Civic Pool in a while, or has been looking for a reason to come back, to come along to the pool’s open day to see what programs are on offer and how a membership could benefit you.
“However if the thought of waiting a week for a swim outdoors is unbearable, the outdoor pools at Dickson Aquatic Centre and Manuka Pool will both reopen on Saturday 24 October.
“I am thrilled to announce the reopening of the two outdoor pools in time for summer. I’m sure this is welcome news for the community and our local dive and water polo teams who train on site.
“The ACT Government is committed to supporting a healthy, active and inclusive community, and there are a number of programs run by the YMCA and on offer at COP that help to facilitate inclusion and are focussed on providing for the health and wellbeing of the community.”
