Canberra snappers top photography awards

CANBERRA photographers Kelly Tunney and Katie Kolenberg have done Canberra proud by winning the Wedding and Family categories respectively in the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards held in in Melbourne on Monday night.

Tunney became the first woman to win the Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year award in the 39 year history of the Awards.

In addition, the ACT had four finalists over four categories including Geoff Comfort, Dan O’Day, Jeremy Byrnes and Lori Cicchini.

David Paterson was awarded the honour of Fellow of the Australian Institute of Photography, the highest honour that the AIPP can bestow.

“Each year we are amazed at the standard of entries and reminded of the ability of the best professional photographers to continually reveal new ways of seeing the world through their images,” said Canon’s manager of Professional Photography, Chris Macleod.

The Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards are open to all Australian and overseas professional photographers. In addition to the Australian Photographer of the Year Award, entries are also judged in sub-categories covering specialised forms of professional photography including: Commercial, Illustrative, Portrait, Wedding, Science, Environment & Nature, Landscape and an Open Award.
