POLICE have arrested a 25-year-old Queenslander after he allegedly assaulted a police officer in the early hours of this morning.
At around 12.51am, officers from Belconnen patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the Belconnen Labor Club.
The vehicle sped away from police along Emu Bank until, pulling into a car park, the driver and his male passenger got out of the car.
The driver refused to take a breath test and became aggressive, and in breaking free of the police, flung his arm upward striking an officer’s face.
The man was arrested and breath tested at the Belconnen Police Station, where his blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.067.
He has been charged with escaping custody, assault, resisting arrest, driving with blood alcohol in the breath and traffic offences.
The police officer received minor abrasions to the top of his head but did not require medical treatment.
