MICK Gentleman says he has approved planning changes to offer commercial development opportunities, defined building heights and the location of new roads at the Erindale centre.
The changes, contained in Variation 320 to the Territory Plan, draw on the recommendations of the Erindale Group Centre Master Plan and were available to the public for comment from May to June 2014.
“The changes are aimed at promoting Erindale as a thriving business and community hub with employment opportunities, facilities and services for the surrounding neighbourhood,” Mick said.
“The variation identifies and encourages additional development opportunities within the centre, improves pedestrian activity, and will guide future development consistent with the Erindale Group Centre Master Plan.
“V320 rezones a number of areas to provide additional commercial development opportunities and amends the Wanniassa precinct map and code to define building heights from between two to five storeys in accordance with the master plan.
“It also identifies the location of potential new roads, and includes provisions around main pedestrian routes and active commercial frontages to facilitate pedestrian movement and activity through the centre.
“The variation permits some commercial opportunities within selected community facility zoned blocks, and the Vikings club site and car park located on the playing field south of McBryde Crescent.
Mick has now tabled V320 Erindale in the Legislative Assembly and, if the Assembly does not disallow it within 6 sitting days, a date for commencement will be set.
“I thank the local community for their interest in the process and believe the final variation addresses the issues raised. I believe the variation delivers the best outcomes for the community and businesses and will ensure the ongoing viability and vibrancy of this important commercial centre,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
The approved variation and consultation report are available at environment.gov.act.au.
