MICK Gentleman has announced the completion of works to extend the bus layover on Box Hill Avenue adjacent to the Lanyon Marketplace.
“Several bus routes either depart from the Lanyon Marketplace, or end there, which means drivers are often required to park buses adjacent to the Marketplace to prepare for the next service,” Mick said.
“To provide additional capacity for buses stopping on Box Hill Avenue, the bus parking bay adjacent to Lanyon Marketplace has been extended. The bus shelters on the north and south side of Box Hill Avenue have also been relocated to allow buses to park at the rear of the stop, increasing the useable space for the layover.
“A small prefabricated toilet block for bus drivers including landscaping to screen the area is also included in the upgrade and is expected to be completed in October.
“The facilities at Lanyon Marketplace were difficult for buses to access with restricted room for parking. These new amenities provide drivers with an appropriate place to stop and have a break.
“Providing bus layover facilities on Box Hill Avenue improves efficiency and reduces the need for buses to return to the Tuggeranong bus depot out of service,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
