SHANE Rattenbury is calling on organisations with an interest in the delivery of active recreation in the ACT to provide their feedback so the government can better engage with the recreation sector in order to get more Canberrans active, more often.

“The ACT Government has released a survey that is designed help government understand how we can better support the delivery of active recreation in the ACT, with the aim to increase participation,” Shane said.

“Last month I released the ACT Government’s recreation strategy, Connecting & Building Recreation: a vision for the Territory, which aims to inform our approach to engaging the Canberra population in active recreation.

“The vision looks beyond organised sport to other less structured ways of getting people active and outdoors, and is focussed on making sure physical activity is easy, flexible and accessible.

“Under the strategy sits a number of “activators”, or action items, such as the mountain bike discussion paper or Nature Play CBR project.

“The survey will provide the government with feedback from organisations, groups and interested parties as part of the ongoing review of the activators, to inform future government directions and feed into the national conversation around recreation.

“The ACT Government is committed to supporting a healthy, active and productive community and this consultation aims to improve coordination between government and the recreation sector to achieve this.”

If you work for an organisation that hasn’t yet been invited to complete the survey and you would like to give your feedback, please contact Sport and Recreation Services on 02 6207 0022 or sport@act.gov.au.

The survey closes at 5pm on 11 September 2015, and will form part of an ongoing consultation with interested stakeholders in the coming weeks and months.

The ACT Government is part of the National Active Recreation Working Group, who is calling on all states and territories to engage with this consultation.
