SHANE Rattenbury says YMCA NSW has been appointed as the new operator of Lakeside Leisure Centre (LLC) in Tuggeranong.

“The YMCA NSW also manages Gungahlin Leisure Centre and is currently the interim operator at Canberra Olympic Pool (COP) in Civic,” Shane said.

“The YMCA is a trusted community organisation in Canberra, and for a number of years they have consistently delivered a great service to customers in our city and throughout NSW.

“I am very pleased YMCA NSW has come on board as the operator for LLC, as their vast experience in pool and leisure facility management will ensure a smooth transition for pool users when LLC reopens next month following the completion of refurbishment works.”

Leisa Hart, CEO of YMCA NSW, said YMCA values their partner relationship with the ACT Government and will build a range of programs for the Canberra community to access.

“The YMCA’s vision is to create happier, healthier, connected communities and we aim to do this by cultivating the happiness that comes from taking part in physical activity and being valued members of a community. A facility like LLC is a great community hub where we can facilitate this,” Leisa said.

Scheduled maintenance works at LLC are on track for completion at the end of this month. The refurbishment works at LLC included re-tiling the pool concourse and renovating change room facilities. Work has also commenced on a new outdoor water play park which is on track for completion in time for summer.

The LCC will reopen in stages from the September 1.

The resident sporting clubs (i.e. swim clubs) that utilise LLC will have scheduled training access from September 1 as YMCA NSW is transitioning into the facility in order to support the clubs as they prepare for a range of upcoming major competitions.

The general public will have access to the pools and gym facilities from 7 September.

However, other facilities, including the cafe and crèche, will be reopened in the weeks after this date as new management is established. It is anticipated that all facilities will be up and running by September 14.
