THIS YEAR the Embassy of Spain here in Canberra launched an Urban Art Prize for street artists to work on a wall of the Embassy.

The winner of this prize is Melbourne artist Rone, who will be carrying out his project from of August 22 to 23 at the Embassy of Spain at 15 Arkana Street Yarralumla.
Rone has gone from spearheading Melbourne’s fledgling street art movement in the early 2000s, as a member of the Everfresh crew, to being a celebrated fixture on the international street art scene. As a street artist known for his stylised images of women’s faces, he perceives that beauty can be fleeting.
His work, shown by galleries including Stolen Space in London, White Walls in San Francisco, Urban Nation in Berlin and Allouche Gallery in New York, has also been acquired by the NGA, and he was commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria to work with Jean Paul Gaultier.
The Age’s Ian Strange wrote last year, “Internationally if you talk about street art and you talk about Australia, you’ve got to talk about Melbourne and Everfresh. And if you talk about Everfresh, you talk about Rone. He’s really helped put Melbourne on the map.”
Now it’s Canberra’s turn.
