FOUR Canberra girls were part of the Opening Ceremony of the Netball World Cup at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, last night.

The girls, who play netball as well as attend dance and exercise classes at the Canberra Physical Culture Club, are Sophee Watson, 14; Maddy Watson, 13; Isabella Simon,11 and Brianna Simon, 8. They had to apply and be accepted for the performance.

The Canberra quartet had different roles in the opening ceremony and wore different costumes, which were all hush-hush until last night.

Sophee was a battle dancer (part of a team that danced to Beyonce’s “Run the World”); Isabella was a flag bearer (carrying the International Netball Federation Flag); Maddy was a ‘60s netball player and danced to a jive song and Brianna was hero girl who walked in front of the teams and danced to Katy Perry”s “Roar” sung by Anja Nissen, winner of “The Voice” last year.
