CANBERRA curator and critic, Peter Haynes, will judge Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s 12th annual Capital Chemist Art Award next month, which introduces a second art prize and a move away from a panel of judges to just one.

This year the award branches out into two categories, giving local and regional artists two opportunities to take home a $2000 cash prize. the $2000 Capital Chemist Award for 2D work is open to artists, 25 years and over, practicing drawing, painting, photography and print media, while the $2000 Tall Foundation Award for 3D work is open to artists, 25 years and over, practicing in sculpture, ceramics, glass and woodwork.
Visual Arts program manager, Narelle Phillips, welcomed Haynes as this year’s judge for one of what she said was one of the region’s longest- running art awards.
The award is open to artists and craftspeople who are ACT residents and people living in regional areas where Capital Chemist operate, including Albury, Batemans Bay, Batehaven, Bathurst, Braidwood, Bowral, Cooma, Junee, Temora, Mittagong, Narooma and Ulladulla.
Tuggeranong Arts Centre encourages artists to submit work reflecting the visual arts program’s chosen theme for 2015, “Connecting to our Environment”. The awards night will be held at 6pm, Thursday, August 20 and an exhibition of selected entries will continue until Saturday, August 29.
