ZED Seselja has condemned what he says is a free trade scare campaign undertaken last night by the CFMEU in the ACT.

“Last night we saw thousands of households across Canberra receive a pre-recorded message asking them to call my office to register their concerns regarding the Chinese Free Trade Agreement,” Zed said.

“The CFMEU are spreading xenophobic lies about overseas workers and are ignoring the facts. The Free Trade Agreement with China will increase employment opportunities for all Australians.

“Senator Gallagher and Member for Fraser, Dr Andrew Leigh have both previously expressed their support for free trade and I would call on them today to detach themselves from their militant mates and also condemn this xenophobic campaign.”

“The unions are ramping up their rhetoric in an attempt to create a distraction from the evidence being provided to the Royal Commission into union corruption. This week the Royal Commission has heard very serious allegations about intimidation tactics by the CFMEU in the ACT.

“This campaign is backfiring on the union. Today I have had numerous complaints from concerned citizens about the rude and aggressive tactics of the unions. Countless people have also expressed their concern that the CFMEU have ignored the Do Not Call register.”

Zed says that if you are concerned that the CFMEU ignored the Do Not Call register you should contact the Australian Communications and Media Authority on 02 6219 5555 or via email on info@acama.gov.au.
