OVER the weekend Andrew Barr announced the appointment of Jon Cumming as the ACT’s first Chief Digital Officer (CDO), who will work to drive digital innovation in the capital and to further establish the ACT as a leading digital city.
“Jon comes to the ACT Government with significant experience as a leader in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from across both the government and private sectors,” Andrew said.
“Most recently, Jon has worked with the New Zealand Government to deliver digital solutions for government, including cloud based and mobile first modernisation programs.
“The ACT’s first CDO will drive our digital agenda and lead the whole of government digital strategic direction to ensure that our ACT Public Service is digitally innovative, dynamic and capable in its service to the community.
“The CDO will help the ACT Government in the delivery of our key digital priorities; including the strengthening of our vibrant and diverse digital economy, focussed on the creation of capacity, collaboration and workforce participation; the enhancement of Canberra as a truly Smart City with the roll out of CBRfree Wi-Fi network, digital arts and digital spaces and; encouraging a connected and inclusive community by improving digital access, promotion of digital skills through government/community partnerships and the creation of online tools to assist parents and students to access information.
Speaking from New Zealand, Jon said that he was excited to take on the role as the ACT’s first Chief Digital Officer.
“The ACT Government is already creating a leading digital city that is proactively embracing technology as a way to improve the lives of its citizens. I am looking forward to the opportunity to bring my experience to Canberra, to help shape and deliver on the key priorities of the ACT Digital Strategy,” Jon said.
“The digital revolution can make people’s lives better. My role as CDO is to facilitate the community’s digital knowledge, to take them on a journey and change mindsets about the infinite possibilities, wonderment and experiences that a truly connected city and world offers.
“As the ACT CDO I am also looking forward to the opportunities to collaborate with the newly appointed Federal Digital Transformation Office CEO and Chief Digital Officers across other Australian jurisdictions.”
The CDO will report directly to the Director-General of CMTEDD and Head of Service Kathy Leigh. Mr Cumming commence his role on 17 August 2015.
