RSPCA ACT informs us that a case involving horrific animal cruelty case involving a local Canberra woman will be appealed to the Supreme Court.

Annette Banks was found guilty of three counts of animal cruelty resulting in just a $483 fine and no animal ban.

“This news is so welcomed by the entire RSPCA ACT team,” said RSPCA ACT CEO Tammy Ven Dange.

“So many times this year we have felt that our hard work has been in vain because of the inadequate penalties for these guilty verdicts “

On Wednesday, RSPCA ACT published a petition calling for the ACT Magistrates Court to take a tougher approach to sentencing for those convicted of animal cruelty offence. RSPCA ACT has been successful in gaining public support with over 3,800 signatures in just over 48 hours.

“It was incredible to see the response from the greater Canberra community for the petition. We know we are not done yet and still need more names if we want this to be a sustainable change towards the sentencing of animal cruelty crimes.”

You can sign the petition at change.org
