NEW information and identification signs have been installed in a number of urban parks across Canberra as part of an ACT Government program to upgrade local open spaces.
“Signs have now been installed at Fetherston Gardens in Weston Creek, Caroline Chisholm Park in Chisholm, Bill Kennedy Memorial Park in Holder, Point Hut Pond District Park in Gordon and Weston Park in Yarralumla,” Capital Works Design and Delivery Manager, Diana Hill, said.
“The signs are mainly information and identification signs, which will improve visitor experience by directing users to park amenities and providing historical, environmental and cultural information of the particular site.
“The signs also include practical information, such as gate opening times and contact information.
“We hope the community will find the information useful, but also informative. For example many of the signs, include biographies and details about the people whom the parks are named after.
“The new signs are a great addition to our urban parks and open spaces that will provide a better outdoor experience for both residents and visitors to the ACT.
“A total of $300,000 was spent upgrading open space assets that also included replacement of damaged park assets such as seats and notice boards and the installation of barriers to deter unauthorised vehicle access and illegal dumping.”
The project was completed in June 2015.
