YOU won’t get into this one – it’s been sold out for ages – but tomorrow, a brand new production by Ballet Revolución from Havana will take the stage at the Canberra Theatre.
Billed as an “explosive, intensive, sensual and impressively athletic performance, full of raw energy with a distinctly Cuban flavour” it’s a mix of contemporary dance, ballet, street dance and hip hop. This is ballet with attitude.
One of performers in “Ballet Revolucion” is an Australian, Aaron Cash. But he got more than he bargained for when he found that “CityNews” dance writer Bill Stephens remembered him from when, as a 17 year old, he danced in Canberra, as Jackie Love’s partner, at the 1988 Canberra Festival Open-air Gala Concert in front of old Parliament House which Stephens produced and directed.
Cash has since enjoyed an impressive international career as a dancer and choreographer. He toured with Cher for 10 years as one of her dancers, was the pas de Deux partner of Twyla Tharp, also touring the world with Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Ballet Revolución at the Canberra Theatre, June 24 only. SOLD OUT
