POLICE caught a white Holden Clubsport travelling at 180kmh south-bound along Gungahlin Drive, Franklin at about 9pm yesterday.
The vehicle was stopped further down Gungahlin Drive just past Mitchell, where the driver was issued with a fine for $1811 and 12 demerit points, effectively losing their licence, for driving at more than 45kmh over the speed limit.
Gungahlin police station’s Sgt Rod Anderson said he was disappointed the message still isn’t reaching motorists.
“This reckless behavior puts lives at risk unnecessarily. I’m glad our officers were able to detect this dangerous driver and take them off our roads,” he said.
Double demerit penalties are in place for speeding and seatbelt offences, with an additional demerit point for all other offences until midnight, Monday, June 8.
