The Telopea Park School Parents and Citizens’ Association has delivered a petition calling on the ACT Government to reverse its land-grab at Telopea Park School to the Opposition’s education spokesman Steve Doszpot.
Mr Doszpot will table the petition of 854 signatures in the ACT Legislative Assembly at 10am tomorrow.President of Telopea P&C, Paul Haesler, says there was broad community support for the community-based campaign, with signatures gathered from all around Canberra and in the suburbs surrounding Telopea Park School.
“We completely reject the government’s plans to bulldoze our school’s tennis courts by December and we know the community supports us,” he says.
“Parent volunteers and supporting organisations have been gathering signatures over the last month for our petition and the feedback we have had from this effort has been overwhelming support for our campaign to Save Telopea Sports Fields.”
The petitioners call on the Legislative Assembly to:
- Cease all actions pertaining to the Block 5, Section 36, Division of Forrest, on which the Telopea Park School Tennis Courts reside;
- Reverse the decision to rezone and redevelop the land; and
- Issue a new lease to the Education and Training Directorate for the express use of the Telopea Park School .
