GUNGAHLIN College Theatre Ensemble is staging their own adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”. With the 50 members who are part of the cast and crew, they say have put together a play full of eerie and atmospheric scenes, suspenseful sound effects and gothic horror devices. We have also collaborated with their inventive Mechatronics class who are working on creating animated props, to add to the magical atmosphere of Frankenstein. Kate Vassallo, “Orbit”
Kate Vassallo’s solo exhibition ‘Orbit’, an abstract exploration into light, movement, colour, line, repetition, optics and illusion, opens at 6pm in Canberra Contemporary Art Space in Manuka. Vassallo utilises drawing, installation, video and performance. Since graduating from the ANU School of Art in 2010, she has presented work throughout Australia the exhibition will continue until June 7.

SAMANTHA Small’s ‘Stalemate’ project transforms CMAG’s glass-walled Gallery 4 into a large scale diorama until June 14. Small’s point of departure was a toy tank that led her to reflect on the contrast between child’s play and the harsh realities of armed conflict. The Combining the artist’s skills of the battlefield modeller and the dollhouse maker, the installation merges the literal and metaphoric spaces of these contrasting, but oddly connected activities. The diorama’s visual focus is an up-scaled replica of a child’s toy tank, based upon the Mark I tank employed by the Allies in the battle of the Somme, 1916. LOCAL indie band After Hollywood have emailed to say they’re are releasing a new single this week and that their single (Blissful Ignorance) is “a sweet slice of Indie-Pop that is very commercial and very catchy”. The single is now available for purchase on May 27th via iTunes and their bandcamp page.

A MULTICULTURAL Arts Festival is being arranged for the residents of Belconnen for the first time. This local event will be held during the afternoon of Saturday 30th May at 18 Dallachy Street, Page. TWO new exhibitions are opening in PhotoAccess’s galleries at 6pm on Thursday 28th May. “A Time and Place” features the work of nine Canberra photographers, all participants in PhotoAccess’ Personal Photography Project. The exhibition gives an insight into the work of Phil Carter, Lori Cicchini, Julie Garran, Susan Henderson, Andree Lawrey, Annette Lock, Kim Psaila, Thomas Varendorff and Pavel Vrzala.
