ACT Policing arrested two men and seized two modified shotguns from a vehicle in Tuggeranong late last night.
Around 11.30pm yesterday (May 23), General Duties members from Tuggeranong Patrol were investigating reports of a multiple firearm discharges from bushland south of Johnson Drive when they observed a silver Holden Commodore stopped in an isolated location, 4.1 kms south of Calwell by the side of the Monaro Highway.
One man was seen standing outside the vehicle and two other people inside.
One of the officers saw a loaded, modified shotgun on the back seat of the car, with the driver attempting to hide something in the car. The three people in the vehicle – two males and a female – were immediately taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle revealed another modified shotgun dismantled into separate parts, with the barrel under the front driver’s seat and spent rounds, plus fresh ammunition, inside the vehicle.
All three occupants of the vehicle were subject to forensic procedures, and the Commodore was seized and taken to ACT Policing’s Exhibit Management Centre in Mitchell for further forensic examination.
The woman was released however, the two men, a 25-year-old from Wanniassa and a 29-year-old man from Chifley, were both arrested and charged with possession of prohibited firearms. They will be held in custody at the ACT Watch House and are likely to face court tomorrow.
