“FOR the first time ever”, as they say in showbiz, ubiquitous band Cell Block 69 is hosting a 80s dance off competition.
“Anyone with the 1980s in their heart can enter”, the multi-headed creators of such events, the 8 Coreys of the band are saying they’re saying in probable reference to the 1984 cult dance movie “Footloose.” Further clues may be found in Cell Bock 69’s rhetorical questions, “Are you a Maniac? [On the floor] and “Do you cut Footloose?”
They’re experts, after all. Cell Block 69 claims to be the band who wrote all the major hits of the 1980s “only to have them stolen by unscrupulous artists” Canberrans feel for them.
Both amateurs and professionals are welcome to register for the dance-off, so long as they put together an amazing 80’s routine and execute it with “extreme radness”.
No wonder one possible hoofer exclaimed, “I don’t know exactly what it is, but I think we need to choreograph some moves”. Good reaction, but no need to ask too much, it’s just about dance, dance and more dance.
80s dance off competition, at the Polish Australian Club, David St Turner, and Saturday August 29. Registration are due to bsmith1980@gmail.com by June 30, saying whether you’re a solo, duo, or team of up to 8 act and including your contact name and number.
