Ken Crispin QC
The appointment, for an initial period of two years, was announced by speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly Vicki Dunne today.
The functions of the Commissioner are to investigate specific matters referred to the Commissioner; either by the Speaker in relation to complaints against Members; or by the Deputy Speaker in relation to complaints against the Speaker.
Crispin, who retired in 2007, began practice as a Sydney barrister in 1973 and moved to Canberra in 1979.
He appeared for a number of high-profile defendants, including Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, and became a Queen’s Counsel in 1988.
In 1991 he was appointed director of public prosecutions for the Australian Capital Territory, chairman of the Bar Association in 1996, a Supreme Court judge in 1997, and president of the ACT Court of Appeal in 2001.
Crispin chaired the ACT Law Reform Commission between 1996 and 2006.
