SIMON Corbell has launched “Repat and Rabbits: WW1 Soldier Settlement in the ACT“, a new ACT Government web resource that provides insight into the men who took up small farming blocks under the soldier settler scheme after World War 1.

The Repat and Rabbits website was developed by Archives ACT as part of the ACT Government’s activities to commemorate the Centenary of ANZAC. The website will honour the soldiers who settled in Canberra after WWI.

“Records held in ACT Government archives can tell us much about our community and the land we live on. This new online resource draws on these government records, such as lease files, rates books and tenancy registers, to show where these servicemen settled and tell some of the stories of their life after the war,” Simon said.

“The website is more than a biography of these men and their families, the site also tells the stories of the land they farmed, which many of us live and work on today. The site uses modern online maps and satellite images to show how the land, in which the servicemen settled, looks in the modern city of Canberra.”
