IF you’ve been worrying that the chaos around Bunda Street heralded a period of unnatural excavation, fear not — nature is about to be embedded in our pavements in the form of art.
Bird to enliven Bunda
“The artwork,” he says, “designed and developed by local artist Geoffrey Filmer with inspiration from Melbourne company Buro North, “will help make Bunda Street feel less like a conventional street and more like a plaza, increasing the street’s vitality and making it more pedestrian-friendly.”
He said the Bunda Street shareway, between Mort and Akuna Streets, was the fourth stage of the ACT Government’s Civic Cycle Loop project. It features a slow speed (20km/h) ‘shared space’ for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
According to Mr Rattenbury, a community event will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, to celebrate the opening of the shareway, with a range of activities on Bunda Street including bike themed events, giant oversized games, cooking class demonstrations and street chalk art—presumably involving birds.
