STEVE Doszpot says revelations that a child was held inside a cage-like structure inside a Canberra public school classroom require a broad and independent investigation.
“There are many questions that now need answering,” Steve said.
“Have these situations occurred before? Are there similar structures in other schools? Why have we only heard about it now when we know the government knew last week? These all need to be answered.
“Furthermore:
- How long did the Directorate know about this issue before briefing Minister Burch or before responding?
- How is it possible that this structure could have been requested,funds drawn and it be constructed without other people within the school system questioning its appropriateness?
- How independent will an investigation be and will it examine whether such solutions have been previously or are used in other schools?
“A full investigation needs to be independent of the Education Directorate and Minister Burch.
“I assure parents of all children in Canberra’s schools that I will fight to get to the bottom of this,” Mr Doszpot concluded.
